Time Travel on a Spaceship To Tour the Roman Empire in 1500

The following dream took place over a week ago - so I will keep it short and to the point as best as I remember.

In my dream, I got onto a spaceship that traveled faster than the speed of light. It had to of, because I ended up landing back on Earth hundreds of years before the ship even took off. Now, this may sound very odd, but in my dream I felt like I was in the future and going on time-traveling trips was nothing more out of the ordinary than talking a dog on a walk.

So this is where it gets interesting - I arrive sometime around the year 1,500 at what appears to be the remains of the Roman Empire. Everyone else on this trip was a tourist just like me so it felt all too natural. I had no idea I was dreaming until a couple elements popped up that instantly triggered a "holy crap I'm dreaming!" response. (Which is one of the coolest feelings ever)

For some reason, plop in the center of the Roman Empire sits the house I grew up in (my family owns but we no longer reside there) and the bright blue house that sits across the street from us. Seeing my own house in the Roman Empire didn't phase me a bit, however, as soon as I saw the in-your-face blue house I thought "who the hell painted their houses blue in Rome in 1,500? wtf"

Anyway, this made me realize I was dreaming so I decided to explore the area by running and jumping really high and fast with no concern for gravity or getting injured. Becoming lucid is one of my favorite experiences EVER so I am very fortunate to have stumbled upon this particular identifier.

Anyway, the only dream elements which I feel are important enough to research are the space ship and the trip through time. Here's what I found:

Dreaming of spaceships:

To see a spaceship in your dream indicates that you are imaginative and artistic. It suggests that you should partake on a mission of inner discovery and comprehension. Change your outlook on a certain issue, even if it seems strange and peculiar.

Dreaming of Time Travel:

Unfortunately I did not find anything on the Roman Empire - so if anyone has any links or information it is greatly appreciated! :)

I had two very strange dreams this week.

In my most recent dream, I woke up believing it was pitch black at 9 a.m. - so I ran outside to see a burnt out sun (like a grey ashy charcoal) in the sky.

The night before that, I dreamt I was swimming in the Ocean and looked up and saw 3 half moons and one full moon. The water was really bright turquoise, shiny and glistening. The sky was pale purple.

I realized I was dreaming in the too-gorgeous to be true dream, but was completely tricked by the "are you kidding wtf happened to the sun!" dream.

All of the elements I've dreamt about the past couple weeks are so random they can't be found in Dream Dictionaries. So if you happen to find anything out about "multiple moons" or "dark daytime" then I'd appreciate your feedback. :)

Reverse Milky Way

Before I fell asleep last night I watched a ton of music videos that the artists filmed in reverse. It's pretty amazing how they learned to lip sync the words backward so they appear as if they are actually sung forward. This concept has produced some very interesting effects - just check out Mute Math's oh so untypical video:

Editing and mixing video has led me to experience some rather unique dreams - one of my favs involved speeding up and slowing down time...but none as oddly intriguing as reverse motion.

Last nights dream wasn't lucid...in fact it felt quite real...real enough to fool me to believe that time was running backward. Why in the world would I believe such a thing? Let me share just one experience from my dream:

I'm racing down a very tall hill...and the further I go, the faster I fly - when suddenly, I look to the sky and see the milky way spinning in reverse. It gave me a really weird sensation, like I broke the barrier of time. At that moment, I came to a complete halt and just watched the stars spin in reverse. I really don't know how long this lasted, but it felt like forever.

I'm not sure this dream meant anything, really. I mean, I'm basically thinking about video effects and motion 24/7 because theres unlimited possibility when it comes to mixing visual elements. Either way - it's worth checking into. "Reverse Motion in Dreams"

^^I came across this interesting passage in The Brothers Karamazov but otherwise nothing is written on reverse motion in dreams that I could find. I searched Dream dictionaries with "Milky Way spinning backward" & "Reverse motion" and "Reverse motion Milky way." This came up for spinning:

"A process, activity, or project where something is being created—such as a relationship, a foundation or beginning, art, or anything that can be created"

Dreamin' Up Tunes

Dreaming opens us to a level of understanding we often overlook in waking life. Maybe because during the day our minds are preoccupied with fleeting thoughts - school, work, food, love, friends, family - plus all the jazz we like to indulge in during our downtime. No wonder it's during the quiet hours of the night when our imagination is operating at peak potential. I found this interesting:

Paul McCartney came up with the tune for the song "Yesterday" in a dream:

"I woke up with a lovely tune in my head. I thought, 'That's great, I wonder what that is?' There was an upright piano next to me, to the right of the bed by the window. I got out of bed, sat at the piano, found G, found F sharp minor 7th -- and that leads you through then to B to E minor, and finally back to E. It all leads forward logically. I liked the melody a lot, but because I'd dreamed it, I couldn't believe I'd written it. I thought, 'No, I've never written anything like this before.' But I had the tune, which was the most magic thing!"

Two Moons: My Mass Effect Dream

Some of you may have heard of the game Mass Effect 2. I've never played it. My roommate who G33ks out on his PS3 hooked up to a massive monitor boasts a visual output on ME2 that puts 1080p Blueray to shame. (I didn't think that was possible either, but all I can say is wow - sleek graphics man.) I'm not sure why I'm sharing this except for a simple connection: my dream which boasts such stunning visuals I'm pissed I don't come with a record button. This particular dream stemmed from the original game, not your hot off the rack release from this past week.

I fell asleep last night after a couple solid hours of traveling different galaxies in Mass Effect. The first one. Surveying the planets. Collecting random probes and sediment. I'd only played once before, about a year ago and didn't travel outside the Citidel. For non-g33k3rs, The Citadel is a massive space station, constructed over 50 millennia ago in the heart of the Serpent Nebula close to the star known as the widow.

*If none of this makes sense to you, just imagine a huge space station so far into the future the races that currently inhabit the ship don't even know who the ancestors were that built it aside from discovering little traces of their history. We can survey any planet - some are gorgeous and heavenly, but most are fire-filled, frozen or too treacherous to inhabit. So here we are, stuck saving humanities ass from all sorts of chaos. Light speed communication at our fingertips. Where is the inspiration behind this flowing from?

Travel through the Mass Effect universe is aided through the use of Mass Relays, which are technological artifacts that are capable of transporting vessels nearly instantaneously between star clusters and systems. There are two types of Mass Relays: primary and secondary. Primary relays are linked with a twin, and so have a single line of travel, but can span as many as a hundred thousand light years, according to the game's Codex. Secondary relays are omnidirectional and can send ships to any relay within its limited range of about a hundred light years.

In hindsight, I should have known I was in for another "video game dream" - where I literally have full control over my situations and outcomes, etc. To say the least, it was epic because it was almost like my dream self was being controlled in third person. So - woot woo, I wasn't afraid of heights.* If you check out my earlier posts, I still haven't mastered this when I'm awake*

All in all, after being warped around the universe and experiencing lighter gravity in my dreams I realize how friggin' powerful a single video game experience can be. Video games are far more powerful than movies because it's interactive, not passive.

There was truly only one part of my dream last night that stuck out. So I'm only including one dream content analysis quote for now. Let me explain - in my dream I am walking around with a very wise woman. She mutters something to me in Latin which started with a V. Vitruvian? No. It was three words. I felt as if I knew what she was communicating, despite not quite understanding the full context of the phrase. Suddenly I look up, and see two moons.

Both were blurry.

One dream interpreter explains: usage of 2s in your dream are symbols of "duality. It means that you are stuck in the middle of something. Whatever it is, you need to make up your mind in order to return to a state of singularity."

this contrasts with the two suns dream I had nearly a year and a half ago...

"People always "look to the heavens" for answers to life, history, and creation. The way you analyzed the reason for this amazing phenomenon indicates you're smart and you like to look to scientific things and probe for the meanings in happenings. This dream is validating that you have curiosity into the nature of events, and particularly your interest in science.

So although the graphics were no where as intricate as Mass Effect 2, the original still captured my attention enough to dream of being in a place unlike anywhere on Earth. I guess the heart of my idea is: if you play a game enough, do you start to view the world differently?

Foreign Nights & Bright Lights

I've never traveled outside of the states, yet this past month my dreams have taken me on two adventures to foreign lands. A few weeks back I recall floating down a river in Russia, fighting against the raging waters to little avail; and last night I dreamt that I was attending a funeral in Japan, except I did not recognize the man everyone was mourning over. The ceremony was packed full of people, some Japanese and others American - all of which paying regards to the family by offering white and pink flowers. The glass ceiling was so tall I could not fathom the height, but instead felt washed out by the overpowering amount of light that entered the room. Moments later, I bumped into someone I knew - our Student Engineer, who told me he just finished setting up for the video presentation. At that time, everything transformed to black except for a huge screen in front of me which played visuals that felt all too familiar. Even though I had never watched the show before, an awkward feeling of deja vu overcame my body, as if I knew what was going to happen next. These feelings faded as I became entranced by a spectacular display of vivid images - waterfalls, sunsets and peaceful scenes.

The order of elements in dreams may not always make sense, but I try to recall the aspects which stand out the most. Foreign, Funeral, Flowers and Bright Light are a few components which I feel could symbolize the surface of my subconscious.

FUNERAL: According to the Dream Mood dictionary, "To dream that you are at the funeral of an unknown person suggests that something in your life is supposed to put to rest or put aside so that you can make room for something new."


FLOWERS: "To see colorful flowers in your dream signifies kindness, compassion, gentleness, pleasure, beauty, and gain. It is also symbolic of perfection and spirituality. Your dream may be an expression of love, joy and happiness. Alternatively, flowers may denote a particular time or season. If the flowers are white, then it symbolizes sadness. Consider the color of the flower and the type of flower for additional analysis."

FOREIGNER: To see a foreigner in your dream, represents an aspect of yourself that is unfamiliar or strange to you. You may be neglecting or ignoring some important feelings or talents.

BRIGHT LIGHT:
"To see light in your dream represents illumination, clear mind, guidance, plain understanding,and insight. Light is being shed on a once cloudy situation or problem. You have found the truth to a situation or an answer to a problem. Also consider the color of the light for additional significance.

To see a bright light in your dream, indicates that you need to move toward a higher level of awareness and feeling. Bright light dreams are sometimes common for those who are near death."

While none of these may be perfectly accurate, they provide insight into an otherwise confusing and complex arena hidden within.

The Snow Leopard Returns

Ever since I was a kid I've had dreams of flying. When I encounter this type of dream I usually realize it right away (It's kind of a giveaway though when your flying on a a roller coaster that bolts you out of the Ville to KC in about 30 seconds.)

Funny thing is, I've always had this extreme fear of heights. In waking life I want to conquer this fear so badly that it sent me to the ledge of the Sears Tower, the tip of Pikes Peak and tumbling out of a plane at 13,000 feet in the air. These experiences were breathtaking, but none of them really helped me overcome my anxiety. Standing on the top of a ladder still sends chills down my spine.

Somehow, when I have dreams of flying I don't think twice about my fear. In my most recent flight, I vividly landed on top of a snowy mountain where I came up to a majestic snow leopard. A white blizzard overtook the pristine blue and purple skyline in the distance and I spotted a cliff. I felt a strong force holding me back from saving the leopard, yet at the same time my eyes were locked on this scene. A cold wind blasted me away and I woke up moments later.

This dream has been lingering in my mind for quite a few weeks, but the environment was so intriguing that I looked it up the very next day. This is an actual clip from my dream journal, dated 1.7.10

The internet says snow leopards represent an aspect of ourselves thriving in an environment others would consider harsh, and represents “strength of action” or “personal power” through silence and decisiveness. In my dream, there was snow all around but it felt like part of my element.

I probably had this dream because I was checking out images of the Aurora Borealis in Alaska. There's this wicked place with hot springs I'm planning on visiting once I graduate. Woot, woot!
